Every year, the heads of the DAAD’s external network come to Bonn in the summer to exchange ideas with their colleagues at headquarters and also with each other, to discuss the latest developments at the DAAD and in the six departments, and at the same time to report on their work and the framework conditions in their countries and regions.
In 2023, a new joint network format was tried out, consisting of the field office managers’ meeting and the IC Forum for managers and staff of the ICs.

New developments and personal encounters: With its Annual Report 2022, the DAAD looks at groundbreaking changes in international academic exchange.
In the foreword to the Annual Report 2022, DAAD President Professor Joybrato Mukherjee highlights how the year overshadowed by the Russian attack on Ukraine has challenged academic exchange and at the same time led to new resolve: "It is our firm conviction that exchange and education, science and cooperation are essential for survival. The new multipolar order, which is not yet clearly discernible, must be lived and shaped - the cooperation space of science enables precisely this."
Here is the 2022 Annual Report (in German).

In 2021, the DAAD’s climapAfrica programme led to the formation of a network of female African climate researchers. The climapAfrica Women’s Group was established in September 2021 during a virtual postdoc meeting of the DAAD’s climapAfrica programme. The group wants to improve working and living conditions for female scientists in Africa, raise their profile in climate science, and highlight the fact that they are particularly affected by climate change.
