Dear DAAD partners, alumni, friends, and scholars,
As the year 2022 ends, we would like to send you season‘s greetings, with many thanks for the good cooperation and active exchange this year. In 2022, the DAAD Regional Office Nairobi carried out its work in almost its usual form, and some new partnerships and initiatives were launched: The new host institutions from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for the In-Country / In-Region Scholarship Programme were selected and announced, and they will be hosting Masters and Ph.D. scholars for the following three years.
The DAAD signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA). The Leadership for Africa Programme was successfully advertised for the third time and attracted almost 800 applicants. Events with presence could be held again, such as participation in European education fairs in Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and Rwanda, dinner talks, Research-in-Germany events, network meetings, personal meetings, information days, and visiting hours on studying and researching in Germany.
Business trips within the region to places like Dar es Salaam, Addis Ababa, Kampala, and Kigali, as well as to universities like Taita Taveta, DeKUT, Makerere, Moi, and Embu, were also possible. We are indeed grateful that you were part of us this year and look forward to an even more productive and fruitful 2023. Till then, we wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year!

Director DAAD Regional Office Nairobi Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, South-Sudan, Ethiopia and the entire DAAD Nairobi Team

The European Commission and the African Union Commission hosted a stakeholder dialogue on the AU-EU Innovation Agenda in Nairobi on November 23 and 24, 2022. The event was the culmination of a stakeholder dialogue launched in February this year, which aimed to gather feedback and input from stakeholders and organisations on the draft AU-EU Innovation Agenda. Stakeholder dialogues drive the Africa-EU Partnership between African and European counterparts at various levels. It culminates in the AU-EU Summits, held every three years, to set the priorities for the following years. .

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will receive around 31 million euros more in basic funding for the coming year than the original draft budget. The budget increase is the result of last week's adjustment meeting of the budget committee for the federal budget.

From November 12 to November 20, 2022, a delegation of the Parliamentary Group on Eastern Africa of the German Bundestag, led by the Chairperson, Kordula Schulz-Asche (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), visited schools, universities, and projects in Kenya. The visit focused on international exchange and the partnership between Germany and Kenya. We are pleased that the members of parliament Manfred Todtenhausen (FDP), Erwin Rüddel (CDU/CSU), Steffen Janich (AfD), and Cornelia Möhring (DIE LINKE) also sought talks with DAAD funding recipients, alumni and partners in Kenya.
