Portrait of the Month - DAAD Centres of Excellence |
By establishing centers of excellence, the DAAD supports African universities in improving their educational quality and expanding their research capacities to enable the education of future decision-makers in Africa according to international standards. The DAAD’s Centres of African Excellence program aims to create internationally competitive centers on a sustainable basis, thereby contributing in a publicly visible way to improving the functioning of socially relevant sectors in African countries. The DAAD Annual Report 2021 is out! |
The DAAD has granted academic and research funding to more than 134,900 Germans and foreigners in 2021, including European Union (EU) programmes, making it the world’s largest funding organisation of its kind. The DAAD Annual Report 2021 is out! This report provides information about the most important projects, current statistics and an overview of the many different tasks of the DAAD. The DAAD Regional Offices Report 2021 is out! |
We are happy to draw your attention to the reports of the regional offices (including the regional office for Nairobi) for the year 2021! The 19 regional offices of the DAAD are part of a worldwide network abroad. These provide a complex picture of the political, economic, social and, in particular, higher education policy situation in the respective countries. DAAD Nairobi Welcomes 21 New Ph.D. Scholars from East Africa to Germany |
Twenty-one new DAAD-scholarship holders from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have the chance to continue their academic careers with a full Ph.D. programme or a year of study in Germany. They have successfully applied to the DAAD, gone through a multi-stage selection process, and are now preparing for their departure. After two pandemic years, the DAAD was again able to personally present the certificates to the scholarship holders and bid them farewell! Read more about this event. |

Call for ApplicationLeadership for Africa
“Leadership for Africa” offers scholarships for Master studies in Germany to qualified applicants in all fields of study except for medicine1, veterinary medicine, dentistry, law, the arts2 and architecture3. All “Leadership for Africa” scholarship holders benefit from a complementary training programme in good governance, civil society, and career development. The mandatory programme must be completed in addition to the regular studies. This year’s leadership for Africa call is already open (for Kenya, Ethiopia, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda) and the deadline for application is 30 June 2022. |

With the Helmut-Schmidt-Programme, the DAAD offers future leaders master's courses in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political, and economic development; prepares them in a practice-oriented course for responsible positions in or for their regions of origin, and contributes to establishing economic and social forms that are democratically oriented and designed to overcome social inequalities. |

Call for Application Scholarships for Master students from Sub-Saharan Africa fleeing the war in Ukraine
The DAAD has launched a special programme for Sub-Saharan African Master students whose studies are interrupted due to the war against Ukraine to continue and complete their studies in their home country or region.The Scholarship programme for Master students from Sub-Saharan Africa fleeing the war against Ukraine is a subprogramme of the In-Country/In-Region Scholarship programme. It is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and managed by the German Academic Exchange Service. |
